The power of planned visibility

Here’s an additional anecdote about the difference MBWA can make – That's Management by Walking Around. Long before Tom Peters popularised it and Richard Branson practised it, 'Monty' Field Marshal Montgomery understood the value of planned visibility.

When Montgomery was in charge of the British Eighth Army during the North Africa campaign, 4 Secret Service Officers dressed as Montgomery drove around in jeeps waving to the troops. Legend has it they felt this was worth an additional two Divisions (over 20,000 troops).

Now that says something about the power of planned visibility!
